Currently, any foreign employee or foreign national who wants to apply to live and work in Belgium must make two separate applications to the Belgium government. First, they must obtain a work permit or a professional card and then subsequently apply for a right of residence (residence permit). However, by the end of 2018, applicants will only be required to make one all-encompassing application to be known as the Single Permit.

Leo Peeters of Belgium law firm, Peeters Law, explores the nuances of this new and improved application process. This article includes all the essential information you need to know about the Single Permit including: which permits are entitled to apply; changes to work permit C; and the procedure for the approval of single permits.
