Easing of entry requirements

Effective immediately, travelers from around the world who are vaccinated and boostered may enter Japan without a negative COVID-19 test. The new rule generally applies to all air travelers. However, all travelers and returnees, as well as Japanese citizens who are not triple-vaccinated, are required to present a negative COVID-19 test (no older than 72 hours prior to departure). Japan had classified all countries into three categories, after which a COVID-19 test was required before and after entry, depending on vaccination status.

Currently, only Japanese citizens, legal residents, and travelers for important reasons are allowed to travel to Japan. This includes business travelers. These and tourists are now allowed to travel to Japan after obtaining a visa and must stay in accommodations provided by travel agencies.
