During the first week of April 2016, employers may file for a limited quota of H-1Bs. More petitions will be filed during the first week of April than there are available visa numbers, resulting in a lottery as in recent years.
To qualify for H-1B status, the position must require a bachelor's degree in a specific academic field and the employer must pay the H-1B worker the same compensation and benefits paid to employees with similar qualifications.
