Michael Sweet was quoted in the Debtwire article "Stockton, San Bernardino Bankruptcies Thrown into Question as Winston & Strawn gets Booted." While the full text can be found in the June 17, 2013, issue of Debtwire, a synopsis is noted below.

The disqualification of Winston & Strawn from representing National Public Finance Corporation in San Bernardino's Chapter 9 will have a ripple effect on the Stockton bankruptcy case as well, sources say. Winston & Strawn was disqualified last week from the San Bernardino case after CalPERS argued it had raided employees from their attorneys K&L Gates, in both cases.

Michael Sweet said that while Winston can appeal, National's needs in the case may weigh against that. "They've got to do what's best for the client and allowing the sideshow to continue isn't in the best interest of the client. I'm sure they're thinking carefully about that as they consider whether to appeal."

Sweet noted that while the judge acknowledged several times the importance of her actions, her hands were tied. "The case law says what it says," Sweet said.
