On August 11, 2014, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vetoed two bills that were aimed to eliminate pay discrimination in the workplace. As we previously posted here, the state legislature passed both bills earlier this year.

Governor Christie issued an absolute veto of the Wage Transparency Act, which would have required state contractors to provide information about each employee's gender, race, job title, occupational category, and compensation. He conditionally vetoed the Unfair Wage Recovery Act, which would have extended the statute of limitations for pay discrimination claims. In his veto statement of the Unfair Wage Recover Act, Governor Christie recommended that the legislature amend the bill to limit the back pay that an employee can receive to two years.
