The recent Social Housing Green Paper "a new deal for social housing" has some interesting points to note in relation to community led housing.
The consultation paper recognises that residents and communities have greater insight into their own neighbourhoods, and acknowledges that this should be properly harnessed. It suggests that there could be more opportunity for community led housing developments to engage with social housing residents.
The paper also reiterates the revenue and capital funding available through the Community Housing Fund, in particular the Homes England programme to deliver funding outside of London. Community led housing schemes can help to unlock housing potential in rural areas and on smaller sites.
Perhaps most importantly, the consultation questions how government can support community led housing and "overcome the barriers communities experience to developing new community owned homes".
