Our Energy Transition team has advised GMT on its project development and senior debt financing of a platform of biomethane production facilities across England.
The team, led by Jonathan Brufal, Partner and Global Co-lead of the Energy, Nuclear, Natural Resources and Infrastructure (ENNRI) Sector and Head of Projects, advised on the full suite of project contracts, as well as financing, corporate reorganisation, energy, real estate and planning. Securing initial committed financing of £80 million and a further £115 million to support future expansion, the debt financing will support GMT's growing platform of biomethane facilities and the continued expansion of the UK biogas sector, a vital contribution to renewable energy generation and sustainability.
The Gowling WLG team comprised Partners Jonathan Brufal (ETIP), Navin Prabhakar (Finance), Helen Emmerson (Real Estate), Amar Adatia (Corporate), Ben Stansfield (Planning) and James Stanier (Energy), Senior Associates Daniel Clarke, Tom Wang and George Nixon, Associates Chloe Collins, Lewis Broome, Fi Moignard and Alicia Dominique, Trainee Arianna Lorentzos, Solicitor Apprentice Madalina Novac and Paralegal Vince Gregor.
The team worked alongside Jones Day (as borrower legal advisers in relation to the financing), Longspur Capital (as financial advisers) and Dentons (as lender legal advisers).
This work demonstrates Gowling WLG's strength in supporting complex, multi-disciplinary renewable energy transactions, combining expertise from specialists across the firm and building on its track record advising developers, investors and lenders on renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure projects across the UK.
