Joined by Erik Nickel, COO of the Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC) and Dr. Erin Powell, PhD, Business Unit Manager, Process Development at (SRC), the panellists will present “Collaboration Agreements in the Technical Space: Pitfalls, Advantages and Case Studies.”

This luncheon panel will address collaboration between corporations, non-profit organizations, startups and academic institutions to advance innovative technology within the energy sector. The discussion will focus on practical aspects such as intellectual property, sharing of results and mutual benefits.

A great deal of new technology is being implemented in oil and gas including everything from new enhanced oil recovery techniques to enhanced AI technology to support the interpretation of multiple seismic images. The panellists will explore where to start a technical collaboration and how to get a technical collaboration agreement in place.

About the event

The annual Williston Basin Petroleum Conference focuses on innovation and strategies shaping the future of sustainable oil production in the Williston Basin region, which encompasses parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Canada.

The three-day conference includes presentations on the most recent advancements in oil and gas exploration, production technologies, environmental stewardship and regulatory matters. It provides a venue for industry experts, geologists, engineers and policymakers to network and exchange insights.

About the speakers

Scott Masson is co-chair of the construction projects and infrastructure practice and works primarily in the areas of procurement, construction, infrastructure and project development. Scott has experience with large engineering, procurement and construction projects in a variety of industries with a particular emphasis on oil and gas, energy, mining, civil and public infrastructure and power generation and transmission.

Randy Brunet, K.C., co-leads the firm’s energy practice group and is also a key member of the technology, IP and privacy group. Randy has extensive experience in the energy sector, with a particular focus on CO2 capture, transportation, utilization and storage projects (CCUS). He was a key participant in the PTRC’s Weyburn/Midale EOR and Aquistore research projects. A sought-after knowledge leader, Randy has advised on many CCUS projects and has presented at CCUS conferences and webinars.
