Continuing Taft’s trajectory as one of the nation’s fastest-growing law firms, Taft has been recognized on the 2025 Am Law 100 as the 79th largest law firm in the United States by revenue, as reported by The American Lawyer. Taft increased its ranking by four spots with a 17% rise in its 2024 gross revenue over the previous year. The Am Law list is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious rankings in the legal industry. Of note, these rankings were done without giving effect to Taft’s recent merger, effective Jan. 1, 2025, with Sherman & Howard, Denver’s oldest and third-largest firm. As a result of the Sherman & Howard merger, Taft expanded its footprint to the Mountain West region and added annual revenues of more than $100 million and approximately 125 lawyers to Taft’s nationwide roster.
In a recent interview with The American Lawyer, Taft Chairman and Managing Partner Robert J. Hicks stated, “We’ve been a growth story in the middle market. Taft is very much on its way of being one of the nationally dominant, middle market firms.”
Taft’s 17% growth reflects the firm’s growing headcount, registering 824 total FTE lawyers in 2024, up from 782 the previous year, and profitability growth (again, without considering the Sherman & Howard merger). Taft’s profits per partner rose to $1.174 million, eclipsing the $1 million mark for the first time.
Today, through a series of strategic mergers along with significant organic growth, the firm has more than 1,050 attorneys spanning from the Mountain West region to Washington, D.C. In addition to its Sherman & Howard merger, Taft recently announced that it will expand into Florida and the Southeast through a merger with the Mrachek Law Firm, a litigation boutique based in West Palm Beach and Stuart, to become effective June 30, 2025.
