We are very pleased to report that all of our employees and their families who were in the British Virgin Islands during Hurricane Irma are safe and well and a number of our BVI-based employees have since been temporarily relocated to our other Carey Olsen offices.
Our BVI practice comprises BVI-qualified lawyers working in the BVI and other Carey Olsen offices across all time zones, ensuring the full continuity of our legal services throughout.
Our office in the BVI was not damaged by Hurricane Irma and we are working to resume full operations in the BVI as quickly as possible.
Significant progress has been made over the past week to ensure continuity of the BVI's financial services industry, business systems and facilities. These include:
- The BVI Company Registry online VIRRGIN system is fully functional and accessible from our other offices as well as from within the BVI allowing us to carry out company searches, make filings, incorporate new companies and obtain certificates.
- The BVI's beneficial ownership information portal BOSSs is also fully operational.
- The BVI High Court Registry is due to re-open imminently, enabling the fulfilment of list searches and the issuance of legal opinions.
- The Commercial Division of the High Court has been temporarily relocated to Saint Lucia where hearings will commence on Monday 25 September. Judges are also available elsewhere in the Caribbean to hear BVI-related applications for emergency relief.
The rebuilding effort on the ground is gathering momentum. As a firm we are working with the BVI Government and international agencies and we are also supporting the BVI Hurricane Irma Relief Fund, more details of which can be found here.
