Case studies highlighting Guernsey's expertise in the investment fund and private wealth sectors will form the basis of a seminar in Singapore early next month.

The free-to-attend seminar, which takes place at the Credit Suisse Wealth Institute, One Raffles Link on 7 November, is the first ever event Guernsey Finance will host in Singapore and will feature presentations from leading offshore lawyers, Leon Santos of Collas Crill and Russell Clark of Carey Olsen.

Mr Santos, Group Partner in Collas Crill's Singapore office, has significant offshore and onshore experience advising fund managers, banks and corporations on fund establishment, investment structuring and operational issues. He will consider Guernsey's capital markets offering, which includes the fact that the island is the global leader for non-UK entities listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

Mr Clark, who heads up the trusts and fiduciary department at Carey Olsen in Guernsey, specialises in the establishment of complex trust structures for businesses and private individuals. He was part of the working party that led to the reform of the Guernsey trust law in 2007 and was closely involved with the introduction of Guernsey's foundations legislation in 2012. He will draw on this experience by referring to an insolvent trusts case study that will include practical advice for trustees.

Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Dominic Wheatley said: "Leon and Russell are leading practitioners in their respective fields and will provide a valuable insight into Guernsey's financial services offering. Guernsey is an internationally-respected finance centre, as well as being the global leader in a number of areas such as UK listings, and we are keen to share this expertise with a wider audience in South East Asia. The case studies referred to at the event will show exactly how we do things in practice, the range of work that Guernsey-based practitioners are involved in and will demonstrate the advantages of doing business in Guernsey."

The Singapore event is the latest initiative to coincide with Guernsey Finance's increased focus on the South East Asia region, which included the opening of its Hong Kong office in March 2016. The representative office, which is located at Three Pacific Place in Admiralty, is the promotional agency's second overseas outpost in the region following its Shanghai office, which opened in 2007.

The Hong Kong office is also utilised by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC) to provide regulatory advice to those in the South East Asia region who might be considering Guernsey-specific ventures.

Registration for the event, which is titled Guernsey Seminar Series Singapore, takes place from 4.30pm, with the event itself getting underway at 5pm. It will conclude with a drinks reception from 6.15pm. For further information or to book a delegate place please visit the event website.
