Further to our blog update posted on this topic on March 14, 2016, which can be found here, the government of Canada has provided some updated information regarding the issuance of electronic travel authorizations (eTA) and when they will become mandatory for those travelling to Canada by air.

To assist travellers to Canada with the new eTA requirement, the government of Canada provided a transition period until September 29, 2016 whereby travelers who do not have an eTA can board their flight, as long as they have appropriate travel documents, such as a valid passport and visa, if required. It will be mandatory for travellers to have an eTA on and after September 29, 2016.

Affected individuals should apply for an eTA as soon as possible to avoid any delays in processing.
