Senator Warwick Parer, Minister for Resources and Energy, launched the Coalition's Minerals and Energy Policy on 22 September 1998. Some of the policy initiatives include:

  • cost savings from the tax reform package, ie GST FBT exemption for employer provided housing in remote areas maintain a 5 year rolling exemption from fuel excise for liquefied petroleum gas
  • review and reform of petroleum taxation and simplifying the Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act
  • spend $33 million over 4 years to identify new oil zones in the frontier areas of our waters, and
  • corporatisation of the Snowy Mountains Scheme.
