A survey conducted by Harris Interactive for Interface, an international manufacturer of modular carpet, shows that nearly two-thirds of American workers consider a company's impact on the environment a "vital" factor in evaluating a new employer. Even more view a company's commitment to sustainability as an "important" or "very important" factor.

"There is broad recognition that companies that focus on sustainability, or protecting and preserving the environment, are appealing to American workers," said Dan Hendrix, president and CEO of Interface. "Profits are obviously the lifeblood of any company, but what we see here is that employees want their organizations to have more purpose. These results speak to a lasting trend about the kind of long-term-focused organizations that employees want to belong to."

Based on the survey results, Interface would be a good fit for ecologically minded employees. The company devotes a large amount of its website to describing its focus on sustainability, including its goal of eliminating "any negative impact Interface has on the environment by 2020."
