The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) published its final Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) regulations on April 15, 2024. The final regulations expand an employer's obligation to accommodate pregnant employees and applicants and make it easier to request reasonable changes to accommodate pregnancy-related limitations in the workplace. The regulations went into effect last month.

Buchanan labor & employment attorneys George Morrison and Jaime Tuite recently summarized the key provisions of the final rule, distinguished it from other existing federal laws (including the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act), and provided best practices to ensure compliance with the PWFA's obligations.
