27 years after the Hillsborough stadium disaster the jury ruled that 96 people had been unlawfully killed.
The nine-strong jury concluded after two years of hearings that the police, the ambulance service, the hosts (Sheffield Wednesday Football Club) and their consultant engineers all made errors that contributed to the deaths. A majority determined that those who died were unlawfully killed. The jurors also determined that the behaviour of the fans was not responsible for the disaster.
Clyde & Co's Siobhan Mullins is the legal advisor to Operation Resolve, the independent investigation established to conduct the new criminal inquiry into the events leading up to, and including, the Hillsborough disaster. Operation Resolve also undertook the investigation on behalf of the coroner.
