On Thursday 12 May the Legacy Claims Group welcomed over 100 delegates from across the latent disease and legacy claims market to London for the annual Global Legacy Claims Conference.
The conference featured presentations and updates on a wide range of current issues affecting the Legacy space. The event began with a series of presentations delivered by Clyde & Co Partners, the focus being on latest developments in Legacy claims.
Toby Scott from our Newcastle office began by discussing recent changes in England and Wales, with David Tait, Partner in our Edinburgh office, delivering a Scotland update.
Peter Dinunzio, Senior Counsel at our New York office examined recent legacy developments in the US, and this was rounded off by Head of Legacy Claims Group, David Wynn, discussing global claims issues, particularly in the South African, Australian, and Indian markets. Part one ended with London Partner, Nigel Brook tackling recent legal developments in reinsurance.
The mistreatment of workers and human trafficking were the focus of the second part of the conference. Brett Hartley, Senior Associate at our London office assessed the impact the Modern Slavery Act has had on business and David Wynn discussed the potential increase in claims for human trafficking and modern slavery.
The conference concluded with a panel discussion chaired by Clyde & Co Head of Global Insurance Practices, Simon Konsta. The panel; comprised of leading Insurance Industry experts: Michael Cook, Director (PwC) Ian Harvey, Head of Legacy Claims (Aviva) Bob Howe, Head of Global Operations (AXA Liabilities Managers UK) and John Latter, Director of Technical Centre (Zurich) tackled questions relating to the future of the legacy claims space.
