Changes To Employment Rates And Limits From 1 February 2012

With effect from 1 February 2012, the Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order 2011 increased the rates of certain statutory payments and limits applying to certain Employment Tribunal awards.

With effect from 1 February 2012, the Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order 2011 increased the rates of certain statutory payments and limits applying to certain Employment Tribunal awards.

From that date:

  • the maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal rose from £68,400 to £72,300;
  • the maximum amount of a week's pay, used to calculate basic awards for unfair dismissal and statutory redundancy pay (among other things), rose from £400 to £430;
  • the maximum amount of guarantee payments per "workless day", rose from £22.20 to £23.50; and
  • the minimum basic award for certain types of unfair dismissals (i.e. those related to health and safety duties, pension scheme trustee duties, and activities as an employee representative) rose from £5,000 to £5,300.
