A former football coach who is already serving a 30-year prison sentence for child abuse has admitted the sexual abuse of two more complainants, one of whom is represented by Leigh Day lawyers.

Barry Bennell, aged 66, is a former coach for Crewe Alexandra FC and also worked as a scout for Manchester City Football Club. He is also known as Richard Jones.

He pleaded guilty to nine sexual offences, three counts of buggery and six counts of indecent assault on Friday, 31 July, 2020, at Chester Crown Court.

He appeared by video-link to enter the plea from HMP Littlehey, Cambridgeshire, where he is currently serving his jail term after being convicted of 50 child sexual offences in 2018.

The latest crimes he has admitted relate to two complainants and were committed between 1979 and 1988.

Leigh Day lawyer Andrew Lord represents one of the complainants.

Bennell is due to be sentenced in October.
