This is an interesting update about comments made by the chief planner at the Housing Ministry. In summer the Government published a series of sweeping planning reforms which would substantially change the way in which housing delivery is achieved. In particular the reforms anticipated fresh local plans by 2024 (now seemingly in doubt), doing-away with the current system of s106 contributions and the zoning of land as requiring "growth", "renewal" or "protection".
However with 44,000 responses to the white paper to consider, and a bill not likely to come forward until autumn, it would appear there is a question mark over whether such a bill would make it through onto the statute books before the end of this Parliament.
More detail is expected in the next few months, so definitely one for the industry to watch.
