Malta Leads EU Member States For Enterprise Social Media Use

According to the latest statistics by Eurostat, almost 75% of enterprises in Malta use social media making it a leader in this technological arena, surpassed only by Iceland.

According to the latest statistics by Eurostat, almost 75% of enterprises in Malta use social media making it a leader in this technological arena, surpassed only by Iceland. EU member states Denmark, Ireland and the Netherlands saw 68% of enterprises using social media, with counties like Poland, Latvia and Bulgaria hovering at the 30% mark.

The EU average of enterprises using social media in 2017 was 47%.

Within the span of four years, from 2013 to 2017, the rise in the use of social media by enterprise within the EU increased from a third of enterprises to almost a half, with the most popular channels being Facebook and LinkedIn.

The four most widely known categories of social media are: (a) social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Xing, and others; (b) corporate blogs or microblogs such as Twitter, Present.ly, and others; (c) multimedia content-sharing websites such as YouTube, Flickr, SlideShare, and others; and (d) wiki-based knowledge-sharing tools.
