The Board of Directors of the Social Security Institute of the Republic of Guatemala (IGSS) approved the Agreement Number 1390, which was published in the Official Newspaper on January 2nd, 2017; and came into force since January 10, 2017.

By means of this Agreement, the Board of Directors of -IGSS- determined that the only identification document for affiliates, beneficiaries and pensioners is the Personal Identification Document, the Unique Identification Code "CUI"; this will function to make requests and administrative or legal procedures in the institution.

In the case of foreigners, who do not have a permanent residence visa in Guatemala and are covered by the IGSS' benefits they will continue to use their old affiliation number. And, if a foreigner is affiliated after January 10th, 2017, they will be assigned with an affiliation number.
