Madderns recently signed up to sponsor the Adelaide University Motorsport Team, with Associate David Bey (an alumni of AUMT) recently visiting their new workshop to meet the team's members.
AUMT will be competing in Formula-SAE, an international engineering student design and build competition to develop a prototype formula-style racing car aimed at mass production.
Started by the Society of Automotive Engineers in 1981, the competition aims to give university students an opportunity to put their studies into practice by working on a complex, large scale project, centred around a race car. Teams compete across 3 static events, testing business, cost and engineering design disciplines, and 4 dynamic events, testing every aspect of the car's speed and reliability.
Formula SAE is a global competition, with events held in the USA, Spain, Germany, the UK, Japan, Italy, Brazil, Austria, Australia, Hungary, India and the Czech Republic. With a heavy focus on innovation, the competition involves internal combustion, electric, and a newly formed autonomous vehicle category.
Supporting the team is much more than contributing towards building and racing a car – it means fostering the development of knowledge gained during a university education, overcoming challenges in engineering, business and management. AUMT will be competing in the annual Formula SAE Australasia competition at Winton Raceway in Victoria in December, which will host more than 30 teams from around the world.
The team will be running ADL21E, a third-generation electric vehicle.
