(Washington, D.C.) March 10, 2003 - Vinson & Elkins is proud to announce that a nationally recognized health lawyer, Christopher "Chris" L. Keough, has joined the law firm as a partner in its Washington, D.C. office effective immediately.

With more than 10 years' experience in health law, Mr. Keough brings a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise to complex regulatory issues concerning the Medicare and Medicaid programs. He focuses his practice on reimbursement and compliance issues and frequently handles cases before the Provider Reimbursement Review Board and in the Federal Courts. In recent years, Mr. Keough has helped his clients obtain tens of millions in additional reimbursement for services rendered to Medicare and Medicaid patients. Currently, he is representing well over 100 hospitals in Federal Court and administrative actions seeking Medicare payments for the cost of treating certain low-income patients.

Mr. Keough's move to V&E comes at a time when health law faces many changes in regulatory rulings and guidelines.

Mr. Keough says, "I view V&E's health practice as one of the very best, if not the preeminent practice in the country. I'm delighted with the opportunity to join forces with the excellent attorneys here."

Dennis Barry, who is co-chair of V&E's health section says, "Chris Keough is a very fine attorney whom we were fortunate to attract to our practice. Chris has distinguished himself already, and we expect him to continue to be in the forefront of reimbursement litigation of national importance. We see great opportunities to involve Chris in our strong regulatory practice and expect our practice to grow even more rapidly than it has."

Mr. Keough received his law degree from George Washington University in 1991, where he served as a notes editor of The George Washington Law Review, and a B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College in 1987. In 1992, he served a judicial clerkship in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Mr. Keough is available for interviews on Medicare and Medicaid issues. For more information, you may contact Melissa Carroll, Media Relations, Vinson & Elkins at (713) 758-2171 or via email at mcarroll@velaw.com
