October 17, 2019 (New York) – Proskauer kicked off its fifth year of the Adopt-a-School program, our signature education initiative for high school students, last week with a speed mentoring workshop in New York, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles. Our Washington D.C. class will begin on October 18.
Since 2015, the Firm has led 137 workshops for 331 students and engaged 639 Proskauer volunteers who have contributed 1,426+ hours through Adopt-a-School.
Each year, we welcome a new group of high school juniors to participate in our program, which seeks to enhance students' professional skills during monthly workshops at Proskauer offices. Mentors at the Firm host workshops on subjects such as resume writing, interview skills, public speaking, social justice, financial literacy, marketing, technology and more. Students are selected by the principal of each Adopt-a-School partner and each session is led by a lawyer or professional staff member in the local office.
Since the program's inception, our primary goal has been to provide the students with enrichment and resources for success in college, careers and beyond. In addition to the workshops mentioned above, we help students develop the soft skills they will need to be successful. For many students, the initial visit to the Proskauer office is their first time in a formal professional setting. Their monthly visits introduce a variety of career opportunities that facilitate future planning after graduation. The relationships each office forms with their students are the key ingredient to the program's success. Many Adopt-a-School students remain in touch after they have completed the program as our lawyers and staff continue to guide them through college, internships and summer jobs.
