Hall & Wilcox invites you to attend a Breakfast Briefing to hear an update on the recent reforms to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) that will have significant implications for most public and private sector entities.

The Briefing will cover the following feature topics:

  • introduction of the Australian Privacy Principles, a single set of privacy principles for both private and public sector entities;
  • new obligations regarding:
    • the collection, use and disclosure, and handling of personal information;
    • notification requirements;
    • the overseas transfer of personal information; and
    • direct marketing;
  • significant reforms to the credit reporting provisions;
  • enhanced powers of the Australian Information Commissioner; and
  • potential penalties of up to $1.7 million.
