Partner Ian Felice was last week appointed to the Legal Commission of FIBA Europe (the European international basketball federation) for the 2019-2023 cycle. Ian (who is Vice-President of the Gibraltar basketball federation, as well as an international referee) was one of 13 appointments to the Commission, whose role it is to advise the FIBA Europe Board and Executive Committee on all legal matters.
Ian told us "it's a first for Gibraltar's basketball federation to obtain an appointment to FIBA Europe's Legal Commission, so I am honoured to blaze this particular trail. FIBA Europe is to international basketball what UEFA is to football, so for little Gibraltar to obtain representation in the organisation's legal advisory body is immensely gratifying. It will allow me to contribute towards the legal work affecting European basketball at its highest level and learn lots about legal issues affecting sports, so it is a great arena in which to combine my profession with my hobby."
Ian will be flying the Gibraltar flag next week as part of the refereeing team at the Island Games' basketball competition, in what will probably be his last international tournament. "I am getting older and the game is getting faster", joked Ian. "My appointment to the Legal Commission will enable me to remain involved in international basketball beyond my refereeing days, without having to worry about aching ankles or fitness tests!!"
