The Partners of Curwoods Lawyers are delighted to announce the following promotions for the 2011 financial year and to welcome Renae Hamilton to the firm.

Promotions

KILEY HODGES

PARTNER

Kiley has over 12 years' insurance experience gained in well-regarded insurance practices.

Kiley has significant expertise in the areas of professional indemnity, property damage, construction, ISR, strata disputes, public and products liability claims and insurance coverage disputes.

Kiley's experience lies in resolving disputes on behalf of local and London based insurers, as well as private companies in the construction industry. She has acted in claims against a wide variety of professionals, construction and mining companies, Owners Corporations, strata managers, government entities, occupiers, manufacturers and suppliers. She also regularly represents insurers in coverage disputes.

Kiley has conducted matters in most Australian jurisdictions including the High Court and has international experience in various jurisdictions including Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, France, French Polynesia and New Zealand.

She has been the President of the NSW Claims Discussion Group Inc since 2009.

MICHAEL POULOS

SPECIAL COUNSEL

Michael has 15 years' experience advising on personal injury claims.

Having worked in both private practice and for the Australian Government Solicitor, Michael has gained a wealth of knowledge in personal injury litigation, particularly in the areas of workers compensation and work injury damages as well as dust diseases.

Michael advises insurers and insureds on all aspects of workers compensation and work injury damages claims. He also advises employers on Occupational Health and Safety requirements and WorkCover guidelines.

Michael has presented at various conferences on developments in personal injury and industrial law and has also attended parliamentary meetings in order to discuss all facets of insurance and industrial law.

BELINDA WIGHTLEY

SPECIAL COUNSEL

Belinda has over 15 years' experience in personal injury litigation and has been practising exclusively in CTP since 2004.

Her previous workers compensation experience is assisting her to develop as part of her practice, a niche area advising CTP insurer clients in relation to s151Z recovery actions by workers compensation insurers. She also has an interest in compensation to relative claims.

Belinda is an advocate at CARS, she has achieved good results and has been complimented on her advocacy skills by CARS Assessors.

SALLY MORSHEAD

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Prior to moving to Sydney to join Curwoods in 2009, Sally worked in a well-regarded Brisbane firm.

Sally has previously represented insurance companies, private companies, and publicly listed companies. She has experience with both public and products liability, with a focus on construction-related matters.

Sally has acted in numerous construction defect claims, representing large construction and engineering firms in defence of claims, and commencing recovery proceedings on behalf of clients. Sally's current practice is focused on litigation for local insurers in relation to policy interpretation, construction defects, machinery defects and property damage claims. Sally also provides advice on complex policy interpretation and coverage issues.

Appointments

RENAE HAMILTON

SPECIAL COUNSEL

Renae joined our CTP insurance team at the beginning of June this year.

Since her admission in 1996 Renae has worked predominantly in insurance litigation.

She has a wealth of experience in personal injury litigation with the majority of her career being devoted to public liability and motor accident work, particularly in the arena of catastrophic and complex claims. Renae also sits on the education committee of AILA and is actively involved in the preparation and presentation of many of AILA's seminars, most recently the Motor Accidents seminar which was well attended by all CTP insurers and their service providers.

Having also practised in commercial litigation and property law, Renae has a unique appreciation of commercial realities and sensitivities.
