Foley Hoag LLP has announced the elevations of Stephen Bartlett,
Aaron Lang, Gisela Paris, Mark Potash, Erik Schulwolf, Arsalan
Suleman and Benjamin Weissman to partnership status at the firm,
effective January 1, 2024.
The promoted attorneys represent several of Foley Hoag's key
areas of strategic focus, including healthcare, energy and climate,
life sciences, cannabis, complex commercial litigation, and
international litigation and arbitration.

- Stephen Bartlett (Boston). Cannabis, Regulatory. Bartlett advises medical and adult use cannabis companies on complex state licensing regimes, regulatory compliance issues, and related enforcement matters. He also counsels private companies operating in heavily regulated industries on environmental risks and compliance with environmental laws. In addition, Bartlett advises clients on real estate, transportation and infrastructure projects in Massachusetts.
- Aaron Lang (Boston). Energy & Climate. Lang's energy and environmental practice covers a range of services, including energy facility siting and permitting, proceedings before energy and environmental regulatory agencies, federal and state incentives for sustainable technologies, compliance, environmental litigation, and environmental diligence in transactions. He assists developers of utility-scale offshore wind facilities, battery energy solar systems, solar projects, and decarbonization technologies such as sustainable fuels, clean hydrogen, and carbon capture systems.
- Gisela Paris (Washington, D.C.). International Litigation & Arbitration. Paris specializes in representing sovereign States, State-owned companies and corporate clients in international arbitration. She has significant experience working on disputes related to foreign investment. She was recently recognized as having played a key role in growing Foley Hoag's Latin American footprint by Legal 500. Paris previously worked for the Ministry of Economy of Argentina.
- Mark Potash (Boston). Life Sciences, Technology. Potash advises life sciences and technology companies on transactions involving intellectual property, including licenses, collaborations, mergers and acquisitions, and joint ventures. He focuses on negotiating complex collaboration and license agreements, as well as development, supply, distribution, manufacturing, services and other commercial agreements, for established and emerging companies.
- Erik Schulwolf (Boston). Healthcare. Schulwolf's practice involves work with molecular diagnostic laboratories and manufacturers of diagnostics concerning reimbursement from government and private payers, compliance with fraud and abuse and federal price reporting laws, and advocacy with federal and state agencies. He also works extensively with pharmaceutical manufacturers, providing state government strategies advice on a variety of coverage, access, reimbursement, and other drug policy related issues.
- M. Arsalan Suleman (Washington, D.C.). International Litigation & Arbitration. Suleman represents sovereign States and State-owned entities in high-stakes international disputes, including before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), ITLOS, UN treaty bodies, U.S. courts, and arbitral tribunals. He leads The Gambia's landmark genocide case against Myanmar at the ICJ. He also advises clients on human rights and matters involving the United Nations, leveraging his prior experience as a senior U.S. diplomat.
- Benjamin Weissman (New York). Litigation. As Deputy Chair of the firm's Business Disputes group, Weissman focuses on complex commercial disputes in all stages, from pre-litigation investigation and negotiation through trial and appeal. He represents clients in key industries, with a focus on renewable energy, cannabis, life sciences and real estate. Weissman co-chairs Foley Hoag's LGBTQ+ affinity group and serves on multiple committees at the New York City and State Bar Associations.
