AMMAN – The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply has, on 30 January 2019, announced regulation No. 5 of 2019 amending the patent regulations and patent fees. The new regulations were announced in the Official Gazette number 667 dated 9 January 2019.

Publications

Patent applications will be published after 18 months from the filing date or 18 months from the priority date. Previously, only accepted patent applications were published, so it will be possible to search for pending patent applications after the payment of the prescribed fees.

Official Fees

The new regulation now distinguishes between individual and corporate applicants. Accordingly, the patent official fees have been reviewed and re-structured to reflect the new amendments in compliance with the Patent Law amendments.
