From the 1 July 2019 landlords were required to meet the new rules for the healthy home standards that related to insulation, ventilation, heating, moisture ingress, draught stopping and drainage.

Due to COVID-19, the requirement for a compliance statement that details information as to how the property meets the healthy homes standards, has now been extended from 1 July 2020 to 1 December 2020.

COVID-19 restricted the ability for the landlord to access their property and allow tradespeople to carry out the inspections required for the compliance statement.

The remaining deadlines for healthy homes standards remain unchanged:

  • 1 July 2021 – private landlords and all boarding houses must ensure that their rental properties comply with the healthy homes standards within 90 days of any new tenancy.
