On March 9, 2018, the federal Executive branch, published in the Federal Official Gazette (Diario Oficial de la Federación) the Financial Technology Institutions Law (Ley de Instituciones de Tecnología Financiera) ("Fintech Law"), which will become in force on March 12, 2018. The Fintech Law regulates Collective Financing Institutions (crowdfunding), Electronic Payment Institutions (electronic wallets), Innovative Companies (sandbox models), and provides the use of cryptocurrencies which have been previously authorized by Mexico's Central Bank (Banco de México).
