The Ministry of Law has announced plans to set up an Academy for Intellectual Property to train and develop skills in the area of intellectual property in the next few years.

This is part of a concerted effort to attract companies and professionals to Singapore to create a knowledge-intensive industry, the key product of which is Intellectual Property.

In addition to developing the relevant skills in Singapore to support a knowledge-based industry, the Ministry, recognizing that the existence of a sound legal infrastructure is essential to encouraging innovation, plans to promote Singapore as an international arbitration and mediation centre for IP dispute resolution.

With these steps in place, Singapore looks set to be the intellectual property hub of Asia.
