Additional pathway to permanent residence for New
Zealand citizens
New Zealand citizens residing in Australia will have an option of
an additional pathway available to them to gain permanent residence
from 1 July 2017. Minister for Immigration and Border Protection
Peter Dutton said this new arrangement was an acknowledgement of
the special relationship between the two nations (01 July 2017).

Update of skilled visa occupations lists
The Turnbull Government has updated the occupations lists for a
range of temporary and permanent skilled visas, with the new lists
effective from 1 July 2017. As part of its reforms to skilled
migration announced in April, the Government will update the lists
on a six monthly basis to ensure the best outcomes for Australian

IMAs must lodge applications before 1 October
2017
All IMAs who are seeking protection in Australia must apply for a
TPV or SHEV before 1 October 2017. Failure to lodge a TPV or SHEV
application will be taken as an indication that an IMA no longer
