Townsville City Council and Cairns Regional Council have now released Draft Planning Schemes for public comment.

The Townsville Planning Scheme intends to replace both the Townsville City Plan 2005 and City of Thuringowa Planning Scheme 2003 which currently operate in the region. The Cairns Region Planning Scheme intends to replace the CairnsPlan and Douglas Shire Planning Scheme.

Both draft planning schemes have the potential to significantly affect current and future development rights in the Townsville and Cairns regions.

Submissions in relation to any changes proposed, must be made on or before Monday 25 November 2013 for the Townsville Draft Planning Scheme and on or before Friday 1 November 2013 for the Cairns Region Planning Scheme.

If you would like advice on the likely impacts of the Draft Planning Schemes including potential compensation or require assistance in preparing a submission by the due date, please contact Kelly Alcorn in our Brisbane Property and Projects team.
