The President has signed a decree forming the State Tax Administration of Ukraine and local tax administrations. This is a bold move which moves the State Tax Inspectorate out from under the wing of the Ministry of Finance in recognition of the importance of taxation collection in supporting the national finances. The State Tax Administration is defined as a central body of the executive power. Heads of tax administrations are appointed by the President and heads of regional and city tax administrations accordingly. Also, the department of police responsible for tax evasion is now to be re-subordinated to the tax administration.
