Transport Malta's ship registry sees an increase of 485 vessels over 12 months

A total of 7,109 mercantile vessels were registered with Transport Malta's ship registry as at end August 2015, with a gross tonnage of over 62 million.

The figure marks an increase of 485 vessels when compared to the same period last year.

In reply to a question raised by Labour MP Silvio Schemrbi, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi also said that the increase in ships registered not only generated revenue but also creates jobs and other ancillary work.

He said, that Malta's ship registry placed Malta on a global maritime map which also helped the island to attract further investment in this sector.
