Kyiv, 5 June 2015. Vladimir Sayenko, the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA) Board member coordinating the UBA’s international relations strategy met the International Bar Association (IBA) Vice-President Mr. Martin Šolc.

Following the meeting of the UBA delegation with the IBA President in 2014, Mr. Šolc and Mr. Sayenko continued discussing key challenges and opportunities faced by the legal profession in Ukraine and the CEE region generally. The agenda included pros and cons of exclusive representation by advocates in courts, professional rights of court attorneys, legislative regulation of lobbying, and the role of the UBA in shaping reforms in Ukraine and other hot topics for lawyers in the region. Mr. Šolc and Mr. Sayenko also discussed the effects of the geopolitical factors on reshaping the IBA’s activities in the CIS countries and potential new events that could unite lawyers in the region.

The parties agreed to encourage the initiatives of lawyers that could broaden cooperation between the two associations.

This spring the UBA and the IBA held a joint seminar on antitrust compliance and business ethics issues, which was very well perceived by legal practitioners in Ukraine.

International Bar Association  (IBA) is a powerful association of international law practitioners, founded in 1948, comprising more than 50 thousand law practitioners and over 200 bar associations and law societies worldwide. IBA resolutions and guidelines influence and support the worldwide legal profession.
