On May 31, 2016, in a letter to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the US House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology announced that it will be conducing oversight over the recently discovered SWIFT cyber-attack which resulted in the theft of approximately $101 million from Bank of Bangladesh accounts at the New York Fed. The letter states that, in light of the recent cyber-attacks on global financial systems, the Committee believed it necessary to receive information from the New York Fed about its response, its oversight of SWIFT, the status of the investigation and any remedial steps taken to address vulnerabilities.
