Barbados has established a local branch of the International Fiscal Association (IFA). The latter, established in 1938 with its headquarters in the Netherlands, is the only 'non-governmental and non-sectoral international organisation dealing with fiscal matters'. There are approximately 12,500 IFA members, but only 69 countries with established branches, including Barbados.
The main objectives of the IFA are the study and advancement of international and comparative law and the financial and economic aspects of taxation. The main benefits to the formation of a local chapter include: establishment of a profile of Barbados in the global international tax community, availability of major networking opportunities for members, access to material and IFA events and introduction and networking opportunities with global and international policy makers. Through this affiliation the country's marketing activities will be enhanced by establishing working relationships with IFA Latin America and USA. Moreover, local members will be able to use their influence to attract IFCs' conferences to Barbados.
The local IFA branch will be holding its first meeting at 7:00pm on June 1, 2016 at the Barbados Yacht Club, Bay Street, St. Michael. Persons interested in joining the local branch are invited to attend.
