April 1st, 2014 marked the date of the coming into force of certain changes to Part III of the Canada Labour Code.

April 1st, 2014 marked the date of the coming into force of certain changes to Part III of the Canada Labour Code (the Code) which legislates on the labour standards applicable to employees and employers under federal jurisdiction. 

Among the changes made, we highlight the following :

  • Establishment of a thirty (30) day limit to pay vacation pay following termination of employment;
  • Establishment of a six (6) month limit for filing a complaint for unpaid wages and other amounts;
  • Implementation of an administrative review mechanism for payment orders and notices of unfounded complaint issued by an inspector.

Other modifications made to the Code also aims to formalize the mechanisms that deal with complaints regarding unpaid wages and other amounts.
