On April 28, 2020, the Government of Québec announced its plan to reopen certain economic sectors in Québec. This reopening, which will take place in May, will be done gradually depending on certain sectors of the Québec economy and the regions. However, until further notice, teleworking remains the preferred option in as many sectors of activity as possible.

In the context of this reopening, the public health authorities and the CNESST, in collaboration with employees' and employers' representatives, have put together a guide which provides health rules in the context of COVID-19. Thus, all establishments will have to comply with the health rules as set out in the Workplace Sanitary Standards Guide – COVID-19. Among other things, employers will have to install hygiene stations and encourage the adoption of flexible hours. Sanctions will be applicable in the event of violation of the rules set out in the guide.

The CNESST has also made available, through its website, a virtual toolkit to help and support employers and workers in complying with public health guidelines. This kit includes the workplace health standards guide specific to COVID-19, checklists for all sectors, sample posters for preventive measures, and additional tools for certain sectors, namely the manufacturing, retail and construction sectors.

This toolkit is intended to evolve with time and will adapt to Public Health measures and recommendations. Access the toolkit here.

It is, therefore, important to ensure that you properly assess your work environment and implement measures that comply with the guidelines contained in the toolkit made available to you by the CNESST. In parallel with this, make sure that you have an updated COVID-19 return to work policy to raise awareness among your employees and ensure their cooperation.

Should you have any questions in this regard, please do not hesitate to communicate with our team members.
