Recently, the Denver Business Journal announced the 2015 "Top Women in Energy" – recognizing 40 women who are key influencers in the Denver energy sector. I am so very grateful to be recognized as one of the 40 honorees; to be included on this short list of women charging ahead in the energy arena is one of the greatest achievements of my career thus far.

There is no question that women are immerging in the energy industry as leaders. In fact, just over a month ago, I commented on the buzz in Denver surrounding Vicki A. Hollub's promotion to Senior Executive Vice President of Occidental Petroleum, Corp. and President of Oxy Oil and Gas.

Duke Energy CEO, Lynn Good, was recently reported to have kicked off the KPMG Women's Leadership Summit with a riveting speech discussing her rise to the top job at Duke Energy, reportedly the largest electric power company in the United States.

Lynn Good credits two major detours in her career with defining her leadership skills – accounting firm Arthur Anderson's involvement with Enron and the Dan River coal-ash spill. "When you are in a situation or a crisis, you need to define, what is the unique role that I can play?" she said.

Good says it is important to remember "leadership is a journey — you never arrive" and Good advises us all that the most important thing she has learned is "the importance of clarity and the importance of purpose."

Lynn Good is a true leader and an astounding woman in energy. You can watch the highlights of the KPMG Women's Leadership Summit here.
