The Ministry of Justice has published its statistics for judicial and court activity in England and Wales up to the end of June 2014. The number of new civil claims over the year leading up to the end of June was 1,531,200. The busiest time for the issue of claims was the period from January to March of this year, when 424,500 new civil claims were issued. The number of hearings over the 12 month period remained broadly constant with approximately 11,000 hearings per quarter. During the 12 months leading up to June, the average time from the issue of claims until trial was 57 weeks.
