Article I, § 2 of the United States Constitution mandates a nationwide census every decade. One of the main purposes of the census is to determine the apportionment of congressional districts among the states.

Equally important is providing state and local governments population counts for redrawing election districts to maintain compliance with constitutional and statutory requirement. Mississippi will embark upon the redistricting process for both congressional and state legislative districts following the 2020 Census.
