"Publisher's Note: DLA Piper partner Danny Tobey, who practices in Dallas, received a prestigious Burton Award in May for an article he published on artificial intelligence. Tobey, a former software entrepreneur, was recently named co-chair of DLA Piper's AI practice. In this capacity, he leads the firm's team that focuses on efforts to assist companies as they navigate the legal landscape of emerging and disruptive technologies, while helping them understand the legal and compliance risks arising from the creation and deployment of AI systems. Also a medical doctor, Tobey is working with the American Medical Association to develop guidelines for AI in healthcare. Earlier this year, he co-authored an article for the Association of Corporate Counsel Docket with Chen-Sen "Samson" Wu, GlaxoSmithKline's head of legal for global medical. The Burton Awards, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year at the Library of Congress, recognizes outstanding legal writing. Winners were chosen from nominations submitted by the 1,000 largest law firms in the country. US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts delivered the keynote address at the award ceremony on May 20."
