Children's Consumer Protection Watchdog Asks FTC To Investigate Manipulative Preschool Apps

On October 30, the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood
("CCFC") asked the Federal Trade Commission
("FTC") to investigate the market for preschool apps. The
CCFC cited a new University of Michigan study that found "a
number of troubling advertising practices, including apps that
force kids to watch ads or make in-app purchases in order to
advance in the game," as well as advertisements disguised as
gameplay, and cartoon characters urging children to make
purchases.
