U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions created a new Department of Justice Task
Force aimed at combating global cybersecurity threats.
The "Cyber-Digital Task Force" will advise the
Attorney General on the "most effective ways that [the
Department of Justice] can confront [cyber] threats and keep the
American people safe." In a memorandum, the Attorney General noted the
prevalence of cyber threats in areas that include the "theft
of corporate, governmental, and private information on a mass
scale" and "weaponizing of consumer devices . . . to
launch attacks on American citizens and businesses." Attorney
General Sessions requested a report from the Task Force offering
cyber-related recommendations by June 30, 2018.
