In the August 22, 2017, Federal Register,
USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service ("AMS") issued
a final rule revising the U.S. Standards for Grades of Shelled
Walnuts and the U.S. Standards for Grades of Walnuts in the Shell
issued under the Agricultural Marketing Agreement Act of 1946. AMS
amended the color requirements to include red-colored walnuts and
removed the "Unclassified" section. The rule
was effective September 21, 2017.
