On 21 April 2017, the Best Practice Principles Group for Shareholder Voting Research announced a review of its best practice principles for shareholder voting research and analysis, which is to take place by the end of 2017. A key aim of the review is to address the transparency requirements for proxy advisors outlined in the amendments to the revised EU Shareholder Rights Directive 2007/36/EC, adopted on 3 April 2017. It is also intended that the updated principles should be applicable to all markets for which voting research and analysis is provided, and by all providers of such services.

In order to gather the views of stakeholders, a public consultation will be held in the summer, and an advisory stakeholder panel will be established to provide input into the preparation of a consultation document and any subsequent revisions to the principles.
